Gene Simmons says The Beatles are the most important band of the past 200 years
The Kiss, co-founder bassist and singer Gene Simmons has been saying for years that Rock and Roll music dead since bands that appeared after the 80s didn’t have the same success of incredible artists who appeared in the earlier decades. Now in an interview with “The School Of Greatness“, he stated that The Beatles are the most important band of the past 200 years.
Gene Simmons says The Beatles are the most important band of the past 200 years
“The Beatles are above and beyond anything that anybody’s seen in music over, oh, 200 years? Easily. Not since the Renaissance.”
“You have to understand, they only existed for seven years, and they came from a place that was a pool filled with liver – Liverpool – where nothing ever happened. High unemployment rate, no experience, no resume, no nothing!”
“‘I wanna hold your hand’, ‘She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah.’ That last chord, that minor ninth, is a sophisticated chord, if you know about music. It’s almost like a jazz chord – unheard of in rock music!” Gene Simmons said (Transcribed by Guitar).
His favorite Beatles album
During his life, his love for the band only got bigger and in an interview with Goldmine Magazine in 2023, he said that The Beatles self-titled album, also known as the “White Album” might be the best of their career.
“The Beatles’ ‘White Album’ is one of my favorites because you’re seeing turmoil within perhaps the greatest band that ever existed that recorded its own music, where each member was a star. But you could hear and feel the disjointed sense of that album. Although clearly the songs shined and the playing and the production was terrific.”
“It’s interesting that Abbey Road perhaps was the greatest Beatles album. They were breaking up at that point, but somehow that had a more unified thing. But just for crazy out there music, it’s gotta be ‘The White Album’,” Gene Simmons said.
Released in 1968, the double-album had many hits. Some of them were “Back in the U.S.S.R.”, “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and “Helter Skelter”.
