The Cult co-founder and vocalist Ian Astbury is a huge fan of Black Sabbath and he recently made an interesting remark about their classic song “Snowblind”, featured on the 1972 album “Vol.4”. As he said in an interview with Lipps Service, he thinks the track “it’s like the perfect hip-hop song”.

“I think Sabbath was just part of everybody’s lives. They were just always there. I was obsessed with ‘Vol. 4.’ Like, obsessed with it. Everything. Every time I saw it, I’d buy it. I had vinyl from all over the place, 8-track, cassette.”
“And I amalgamated, like, maybe 30 pieces of ‘Vol. 4.’ Because ‘Snowblind’ is staggering. I mean, the break in that, the break beat, the cadence of it, where everything’s placed – it’s perfect. It’s like a perfect hip hop track,” Ian Astbury said.
Black Sabbath’s final show happened last July 5 at the Villa Park in Birmingham, their hometown. Only a few weeks later, on July 22, the band’s vocalist Ozzy Osbourne passed away at the age of 76.
Astbury also talked about the performance and praised the musicians. “He (Bill Ward) put his shirt off. He ripped it up. I mean, they ripped it up. They were, like, arguably, head and shoulders above everybody else that walked on stage that day.”
“(Talking about Ozzy) I mean, wow, can you imagine being in that position where you’ve had that life and you know you’ve maybe made the choice that that’s that. That you’re good. Like, ‘I’m good. Check, please!’ And then you’re out. ‘I did it right.’ I mean, I’ve spent some intimate time with John (Ozzy). Beautiful guy. Gorgeous. Born in Heswall, Cheshire, England back in 1962, Ian Astbury achieved fame as the vocalist of The Cult. The band released famous albums like “Love” (1985), “Electric” (1987), “Sonic Temple” (1989) and “Ceremony” (1991). The group was reactivated in 2007 and continues to record new albums and tour around the world. Their latest record is “Under the Midnight Sun” released in 2022.
The Cult’s current line-up has Ian Astbury (Vocals), Billy Duffy (Guitar), John Tempesta (Drums), Charlie Jones (Bass) and Mike Mangan (Keyboards). The band was formed in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England back in 1983.
