Stevie Nicks laments not having the chance to say goodbye to McVie

The Fleetwood Mac keyboardist and singer Christine McVie passed away on November 30, 2022 at the age of 79, a victim of a stroke, after suffering from metastatic cancer for a while. Bandmates for decades, Stevie Nicks and here had a good relationship and Nicks said in an interview with Mojo magazine that he laments she didn’t have the chance to say goodbye to her bandmate and friend.

Everything happened so fast that her family said there would be no time for that since they were in different places.

“It was all stunningly strange, because there wasn’t any lead up to it. We got a call, and I was going to rent a plane and go see her, but her family said, ‘Don’t come, because she may not be here tomorrow.’ And the next day, she passed away.”

“I wanted to go there and sit on her bed and sing to her – which definitely would have made her pass away faster. But I needed to be with her. And I didn’t get to do that. So that was very hard for me. I didn’t get to say goodbye,” Stevie Nicks said.

During the same conversation, Nicks said that it is really unlikely that Fleetwood Mac will ever reunite again, because they really couldn’t do that without Christine.

Although Nicks says that a reunion wouldn’t work with Christine, she wasn’t part of the band from 1998 to 2014. Since 2018, Fleetwood Mac have two additional touring members, which are the guitarists Mike Campbell (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) and Neil Finn (Crowded House).

Meanwhile, Nicks continues to tour on her own and has many scheduled tour dates for 2024. Besides songs from her solo career, she is also performing Fleetwood Mac tracks live.
