Steve Jones says he hasn’t talked with John Lydon since 2008

The Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone AU/NZ that he hasn’t talked to the band’s original vocalist John Lydon since 2008 when the original line-up reunited for the last time. Lydon sued Steve two years ago because of the TV miniseries “Pistol” which told the story of the band from Jones’ perspective. He wanted to prevent the band’s songs from being used in the show.

In the interview, Jones said that after that court case, in which Lydon lost, he didn’t even think about inviting for the current reunion of the group.

Steve Jones says he hasn’t talked with John Lydon since 2008

“We don’t talk. The last time I spoke to him was 2008. But I wish him all the best. I really do. We had a great time when we were young, and it was life-changing for all of us. But after the court case with Pistol it wasn’t even worth asking John (about the reunion). I don’t think he was interested.”

Besides Steve Jones, the reunion also has the bassist Glenn Matlock, the drummer Paul Cook and the new singer Frank Carter.

Lydon recently called the current reunion tour of the band a “karaoke”. He said that in an interview with Classic Rock Review.

“I wrote the fucking songs, didn’t I? You know, I gave him the image that was the frontman. I am the voice. What made the whole world sing? and now you’re going out, as they did the year before with Billy Idol.”

“It’s just karaoke, really. I would love to be embarrassed by high-quality songwriting from them. They’ve had long enough to get that together now, haven’t they? Yeah, but no, they profess their hatred for me, but they can’t live without me. Yeah, I am the punishment that goes on giving.”

John Lydon will also be on the road with P.I.L this year.
