Steve Harris created Iron Maiden in London, England back in 1975 and besides being the band’s bassist he also is the main songwriter. But he is really unstoppable and besides playing tennis and football he also created, more than a decade ago, another band called British Lion. He even plays with that group in the spare days of the Maiden tours. In an interview with Music Radar, Harris explained why he created the side project and also why he decided to live in the Bahamas.

“The funny thing is, when I go out with British Lion and we’re playing in clubs, it’s the same thing that I was doing with Maiden in the early days. I missed that sort of challenge, that era of not knowing if people are gonna turn u or not, and trying to just get as many people in as possible.”
“You got more butterflies in your stomach back then with Maiden, because you weren’t sure what you were gonna get. And I like that feeling – not the butterflies, necessarily, but I like the feeling of the challenge. And I love doing both – Maiden and British Lion – because I’m the sort of person that likes to keep busy. I’m always doing something or other, always on the go.”
“Where I live in The Bahamas, it’s incredible, but I can’t spend more than 30 or 40 minutes on the beach. I’ve lived there a long time. I always wanted to after we made albums there.”
“Living there, I thought it might help chill me out a little bit. And it has made me chill out a tiny bit. But as soon as I get home I’m already thinking about the next tour – and that’s great, because it’s what I love doing,” Steve Harris said.
As the bass player said, Iron Maiden recorded three albums at the Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas. They were “Piece of Mind” (1983), “Powerslave” (1984)
I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 6 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution. The studies and experience in the field helped me improve the website and always bring the best of classic rock to the world! MTB: 0021377/MG
