Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings will tour as The Guess Who
In 2023 the guitarist/singer Randy Bachman and the singer/keyboardist Burton Cummings filed a lawsuit against a version of Guess Who which has been touring under the band’s name with only the original drummer Garry Peterson and the bassist Jim Kale (Retired in 2016) appearing on selected dates. Last September they finally reached a settlement with the drummer and bassist, and now they share the band’s trademark rights.
Bachman now announced that after this year he will stop touring as Bachman-Turner Overdrive and will reactivate The Guess Who with Burton Cummings.
“(Burton is) finishing up his stuff this year, I’m finishing up my BTO stuff. And we have a plan for 2026 to be the Guess Who, where… We do a set list of about 30 hit songs. It’s probably gonna be a two- or three-hour Springsteen kind of marathonic show. And we’re all geared to do that in 2026. It’ll be the unveiling of ‘The Guess Who are back,’” Randy Bachman told American Songwriter.
The last time the real Guess Who was reunited was from 2000 to 2003. Their most recent album is “Running Back Thru Canada”, released in 2002. Some of their most famous songs are “American Woman”, “These Eyes” and “No Time”. During their most successful period, back in the 60s, the band released 11 studio albums. All of them reached the charts in Canada and United States.
The “fake” version of The Guess Who
From 2016 to 2021, for example, the “fake” Guess Who version even had the famous bassist Rudy Sarzo on their line-up. Their final formation had Garry Peterson (Drums -Original member), Derek Sharp (Vocals, guitar, piano – Since 2008), Michael Staertow (Guitar – Since 2021), Greg Smith (Bass – Since 2023) and Teddy Andreadis (Keyboards – Since 2023).
That version of the band released two studio albums in the last couple of years: The Future is What it Used to Be” (2018) and “Plein D’Amour” (2023). Both of course, didn’t have Cummings or Bachman.
