Max Cavalera says Sepultura was never the same without him and Igor
The brothers Igor (Drums) and Max Cavalera (Vocals and guitar) formed Sepultura in Belo Horizonte, Brazil back in 1984 and their classic line-up which also had Paulo Jr. (Bass) and Andreas Kisser (Guitar) were together from 1987 to 1997 when Max decided to leave the group.
In the same year the band invited the American singer Derrick Green to be the frontman and nine years later, Igor Cavalera also decided to leave the group. Since then Andreas and Paulo are the only classic members of the group and recently announced Sepultura’s farewell tour. Both of them have been saying in interviews they would like to invite the Cavalera brothers for the final shows but in an interview with Full Metal Jackie, Max talked about the group and said the band was never the same after they left.

“I think a lot of fans feel that me and Igor kind of carry the spirit of Sepultura with us on everything that we do. And I don’t know – they still call it Sepultura, but everybody knows that it’s not the same and it’s never gonna be the same.”
“And I don’t have nothing to do with what they’re doing, with the disbanding of the band. Me and Igor, we have our own path, we are on our own thing, we are revisiting those old material on our own time. And the way we did them was the way we always did – it was from our heart. For us, it’s really special to preserve that.”
He continued:
“I think it’s kind of like that young heart, the teenage heart that lives inside of you. I kind of keep that really sacred. And no matter what happens in the business or the politics of music, I try not to let that affect my young mind and soul that I carry with me all the time.”
“So I feel like that when I talk about Sepultura. It was a special band of a special time and we celebrate that – I get a chance to celebrate that with Igor, regardless of what the other guys are doing,” Max Cavalera said (Transcribed by Blabbermouth).
