King Crimson’s Robert Fripp is recovering from heart attack
The King Crimson leader and guitarist Robert Fripp revealed on his Youtube channel maintained alongside his wife Toyah Willcox, that he suffered a heart attack last month. He said that he was preparing for a flight to Italy to play at an Orchestra of Crafty Guitarists event at Castione della Presolana in Bergamo and he felt something similar to acid reflux.
Robert Fripp talked about the heart attack, saying:
“I’d been suffering what I considered to be acid reflux for a couple weeks before, following my return from ‘Cruise to the Edge’ with David Singleton. And I had this in 2019, and I thought, ‘All right. A little acid reflux. Deal with this.’ But on the Saturday morning I flew, it felt a little bit more”.
When he arrived in Italy, the organizers took him to Bergamo Hospital and he was admitted to intensive care and underwent two emergency surgeries.
‘When the doctor showed me the diagrams on the computer. She said, ‘Your heart, globally, is good. But you have these concerns.’ And I said, ‘Alright, I want to check myself out and fly home. Well, here’s the interesting bit: I was in A&E not quite knowing what was going on other than I knew they were going to do something, and an orderly came along and shaved my balls!”
“Now, the dear man, I really didn’t wish his job on him at that point. Now this is the thing: So you’re concerned with my heart, fine. What are you doing shaving my balls?” He said (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar).
Curiously, the musician didn’t cancel his performance, when he got out of the hospital he went immediately to the Castione della Presolana to play.
