Gene Simmons’ opinion on Billie Eilish

One of the most successful songwriters from the past five decades, Gene Simmons was an important part of Kiss, not only as the bassist and singer but also as the songwriter alongside Paul Stanley. They are the only two original members who were part of the group until their farewell show in 2023.

But besides being an influential musician, Simmons is also known for always giving his real opinion on other artists. Over the years he talked about many Pop stars, including Billie Eilish.

The Kiss co-founder and bassist loves Billie Eilish’s music, he already praised her and her brother Finneas O’Connell. “The most unique new artist and I hope she moves on, she’s still really young, is Billie Eilish. She’s called Billie Eilish but it’s really her brother that creates those sonics, the lyrics and all that. But the imagery is Billie, because her brother doesn’t look like Billie. I believe that’s gonna be an exciting journey and there’s an awful lot of good music out there,” he said in an interview with US Weekly (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage).

As Simmons said, all the albums are written by the brothers and the first two ones ” were produced by Finneas. The most recent one “Hit Me Hard and Soft”, released in 2024 was produced by both of them.

In 2021 the documentary “Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry” was released telling the story of how she became a superstar. Eilish is one of the most successful and influential artists in the world for the past couple of years already. She is only 23 and already won two Academy Awards (The first person born in the 21st century to win one), nine Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes awards and more.

She is not the only “Pop Diva” he likes

But she is not the only “Pop Diva” that Gene Simmons likes, he already praised Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift, for example. He often uses her and Eilish as examples of why they are the new rock stars, since Rock and Roll music is not as big as it used to be, according to him, because of the illegal downloads that killed the music business model.

“I love all the pop artists. I think Billie Eilish is fantastic. She’s interesting because she and her brother actually write the material and are unique to themselves. Lady Gaga is fantastic in the female category. She writes her own material, she can sing like nobody’s business.”

“But she actually is a musician, writes her own songs, plays piano, she can actually do that. The rest of the world reacts to a lot of the pop divas, although mostly they don’t write their own songs and can’t play an instrument. And by the way, that’s okay, too. It doesn’t matter what you like. But it ain’t the Beatles,” Gene Simmons told Gulf News.
