Drummer Dave Lombardo praises Metallica’s Lars Ulrich

Born in Havana, Cuba back in 1965, Dave Lombardo migrated to the United States with his family when he was two years old and there his passion for Rock and Roll music started. He first achieved fame as the drummer of the Thrash Metal band Slayer but also worked with many other bands like Dead Cross, Testament, Suicidal Tendencies, Misfits and more.

In an interview with Metal Hammer, the musician praised the Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, that is often criticized by music fans.

“I feel Lars is an essential part of that band — anybody else and it just won’t sound the same. I admonish the people who talk shit about him, I don’t like that. You have to embrace who Lars is, and his contribution to Metallica’s sound.”

“They’re such an inspirational band, and everybody wants to be as big as they are, and you can only do that by taking risks. They shocked people when they cut their hair or whatever.”

“But it was part of their evolution and they clearly knew what they were doing. I love that they’re still out there kicking ass,” Dave Lombardo said.

Lombardo recently released his first solo album called “Rites Of Percussion”. Lars Ulrich continues performing and recording with Metallica more than 40 years after he helped to form the band alongside his bandmate, the guitarist and singer James Hetfield.

They are one of the best-selling bands of all time with an estimated amount of more than 125 million records sold worldwide. Their most recent album “72 Seasons” was released in 2023 and they already toured in Europe a few months ago and now they are currently playing in the United States.

Besides Ulrich, the band is formed by James Hetfield (Guitar and vocals), Kirk Hammett (Guitar) and Rob Trujillo (Bass).

I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 6 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution. The studies and experience in the field helped me improve the website and always bring the best of classic rock to the world! MTB: 0021377/MG
