Joe Perry talks about the future of Aerosmith

Aerosmith had to retire from touring in 2024 after Steven Tyler suffered a vocal injury that prevented him from performing the remaining shows of their farewell tour. However, over the past year, the singer has performed on a few special occasions and even dueted with Yungblud on Aerosmith’s EP “One More Time” (2025). Since then, there has been much speculation about a final show by the band in the mold of Black Sabbath’s farewell. The band’s guitarist Joe Perry spoke in an interview with Billboard about their future plans.

“The band is still kind of definitely not in touring mode, but there are certainly other options, so we stay in touch. You just never know. It’s just been in the last six months that Steven’s started to get comfortable with singing.”

“He literally had to take a year off before he was able to start stretching his vocal cords, and you’re always worried about reinjuring it. I learned a long time ago that everything we do is fragile… so we just take it day by day. You hope for the best, you just have to have the confidence and have that vision of positive in front of you. You can’t do it unless you envision it,” Joe Perry said.

Steven Tyler still appears occasionally as a singer at special events, while Brad Whitford has been playing with Joe Perry in his solo band. Bassist Tom Hamilton, meanwhile, is focused on his new band Close Enemies.

Aerosmith is one of the most successful bands of all time, with an estimated amount of more than 150 million records sold. The band’s classic line-up has Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer.
