Paul Stanley explains how Kiss licenses tribute bands
Right now, tribute bands are performing in bars all around the world playing the hits of famous Rock and Roll groups like Kiss. Unlike many bands, they actually license their tribute bands as Paul Stanley explained in an interview with “Howie Mandel Does Stuff”. It can be revoked at any time because according to him the makeups and personas are trademarked so it can’t be used without permission.
Paul Stanley explains how Kiss licenses tribute bands
“ There are some KISS tributes that we’ve allowed to continue. It’s a matter of giving them the license to do it that can be revoked at any time, because all the makeups, all those personas are trademarked and nobody can use those for any purpose.”
(It’s usually revoked) if it becomes big business, that goes beyond a tribute. Yes, it’s okay to make some money, but your heart has to be in the right place,” Paul Stanley said (Transcribed by Blabbermouth).
Since Kiss came to an end in 2023 after 50 years on the road, Gene Simmons reactivated his solo career. He has been touring around the world playing his solo material, Kiss tracks and some covers. Paul Stanley still was not involved in any musical project. He recently said he still feels disoriented after the band’s end.
“I was gonna use the word ‘adjustment’. There’s no way to give that up and not feel a sense of, if not lost, kind of disoriented. It was time (to stop), and intellectually it made sense. But that doesn’t mean that emotionally, it doesn’t play a part in it. So, yeah, being home, as I am right now, is normal. What’s not normal is I’m not going back out,” he told Rock Nations in 2024.
They are one of the most influential and successful bands of all time. Kiss sold an estimated amount of more than 100 million records worldwide.
