The Police co-founder and drummer Stewart Copeland was interviewed by Wired and praised the late Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison saying that he had the chops and inspired him to try different things when playing.

“Now, on the younger end of it, I would say Joey Jordison, sadly departed, with Slipknot. That little bastard had chops!”
“You know, kids these days, they start out where we left off,” Copeland added. “And it’s like the Olympics where every year they can jump a little higher, run a little faster.”
“How’s that possible? Has the human species evolved in one year? I dunno! But Joey Jordison, doing things with his feet that I aspire to with my hands,” Stewart Copeland said (Transcribed by Metal Injection).
Jordison was 23 years younger than Stewart Copeland and when The Police was formed he was only 2 years-old. He first recorded with the band Modifidious in the early 90s, joining Slipknot in 1995.
He was a member of the band until 2015 and passed away in 2021 at the age of 46. According to his family, the musician died in his sleep.
Stewart Copeland had already praised Jordison back in 2017 during an interview with Ultimate Guitar. The Police member recalled that he saw Slipknot playing live and that inspired him to buy a double bassdrum pedal.
“When I got the Tama kit with a single bassdrum, I had to relearn how to do it on one foot. Once I’d gotten over a hump there, I was a whole better drummer.
Then years later, I saw Slipknot with Joey Jordison and the shit he does with his feet, I aspire to do with my hands and then I got me a double bassdrum pedal,” Stewart Copeland said.
