The Metallica album that Slash said is the best one

The legendary guitarist Slash started his musical career in 1981, the same year the Thrash Metal group was formed by Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield.

Although they kind of started their careers at the same time, it took Slash more six years to finally have a record out as a member of Guns N’ Roses. They were obviously very different bands and were not playing the same kind of music but Slash always loved Metallica and even gave his opinion once on which is the best album they released.

The Metallica album that Slash said is the best one

It was in an interview with Paste Magazine in 2010 that Slash listed some of his favorite songs of all time. One of them was “Disposable Heroes”, which was featured on their 1986 album “Master of Puppets”. When explaining that choice, he said that the album was the “ultimate Metallica album of all time”.

“This one’s off of Master of Puppets, which is the ultimate Metallica album of all time. I love the rhythm and timing on this one. It’s got a real sinister drive to it, too. Like you just know something bad’s about to happen,” Slash said.

Master of Puppets was Metallica’s third studio album and it remains as one of their best-selling records. At the time the band was formed by Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and the late Cliff Burton. It was the final album of the bassist with the band since he tragically passed away in the same year, 1986. He died in a bus accident at the age of 24. Besides the title-track, it also had grat songs like “Orion”, “Battery” and “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)”.

He is still a Metallica fan and always hear their new albums as he told Coffee With Ola in 2024. The musician said that he heard their latest record “72 Seasons”, released in 2023, and call it “fucking amazing”. Curiously, in that same interview he also praised the Megadeth album “The Sick, The Dying… and the Dead!” which was released in 2022.

He thinks Metallica’s “Garage Days” is one of the best cover albums of all time

Another Metallica record that Slash really likes is the 1987 EP “Garage Days”. It covered songs by Diamond Head, Holocaust, Killing Joke, Budgie and Misfits.

He said that in an interview with the Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones back in 2019.  “Some cover records are better than others. But the ones where the artist really relates to the original material and it becomes part of their personality when they re-record it. I think that’s really cool. I thought ‘Garage Days’ from Metallica was one of the best cover records of all-time. It was great,” Slash said.
