Rocketman director wants to make a The Clash movie

“Rocketman” director Dexter Fletcher talked about his desire to do a biopic of The Clash in the future.

The filmmaker directed the film about Elton John last year. He also made Queen and Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, after original director Bryan Singer was fired.

Speaking to NME on the BAFTA red carpet, Fletcher said that the punk group led by Joe Strummer could be the next band in sight.

Dexter Fletcher said about The Clash movie:

“They made their own film many years ago, but that can be interesting,” he said. But added that he would not be “rushing to do more music biographies anytime soon.” “Maybe 10 years from now – The Clash is still around. It will be great”.

Asked if he had any interest in working on a film about George Michael’s life, the director replied: “I didn’t read the script, I don’t know! Sure, he’s an incredible person, but for me, as a filmmaker, I need to find other ways to explore ’.

“I don’t want to say: ‘no, I would never make a film about George Michael’. Because that would be misinterpreted. You read [the script] and see if there’s anything in it that could be exciting. It is not easy to say: ‘Ah, I’m going to do one about this person! ‘”

Rocketman was nominated for four awards at the BAFTAs 2020. Including Best British Film and Best Actor for Taron Egerton’s performance.
