Wolfgang Van Halen picks Dave Grohl as his Rock God

The Rock Show With Johnnie Walker always asked their guests to pick their Rock God and explain the reason why they like the artist chosen so much. The most recent interviewed was Wolfgang Van Halen, who is the leader of Mammoth WVH and Eddie Van Halen‘s son. The musician’s choice was the Nirvana Drummer and Foo Fighters founder and leader Dave Grohl.

They performed together last year when he was part of the tribute for the late drummer Taylor Hawkins. He performed Van Halen’s tracks with the band in London and Los Angeles at the time.

“(Transcribed by Blabbermouth) “I’ve chosen Dave Grohl because he just inspires me infinitely — in songwriting and capability as a musician. I really admire how he came from Nirvana, and then after that sadly ended, how he was able to build his own thing with Foo Fighters. It’s how I mirror a lot of my experience, so where I’ve come from and what I’ve tried to do myself. So he’s just everything I aspire to be.”

“I first became aware of him, gosh, when I was… It was when ‘In Your Honor’ (came out) and (I heard) ‘Best Of You’. I remember that song would always get stuck in my head. It always stuck with me how he made everything better — his songwriting, singing. Yeah, I guess that’s why maybe I look up to him so much.”

“He really is just everything I aspire to be, especially after getting to know him a little bit and spending a little bit of time with him… There’s nothing better than looking up to someone and realizing that they’re everything and more. And he is that,” Wolfgang Van Halen said.

Mammoth’s first album was released in 2021 and the second “Mammoth II” was released last August 4. The group has a lot of scheduled tour dates this year and will be Metallica’s special guest on many dates.

I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 6 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution. The studies and experience in the field helped me improve the website and always bring the best of classic rock to the world! MTB: 0021377/MG
