The singer who Robert Plant wished had recorded with Zeppelin

In 1968 Rock and Roll music was about to evolve drastically once more when many bands appeared creating a whole new perspective for that music genre. One of them was Led Zeppelin and the group redefined what Hard Rock meant. Now seen as a supergroup, all the four members of the group are very accomplished musicians. Robert Plant will always be remembered for his powerful vocals and incredible songwriting.

Although many fans wouldn’t change a thing about his contribution as a vocalist to the band’s discography he would. Back in 1977, in a conversation with Interview Magazine, the musician revealed that he would like to have invited a famous female singer to record with him in Led Zeppelin.

Countless incredible groups appeared in the United Kingdom in the late 60s and quickly became in the early 70s some of the biggest bands in the world, selling millions of records overseas. It was the decade where Led Zeppelin really became one of the biggest bands around and everybody always waited for their next release.

Unlike other groups, they never really collaborated with other artists in the studio. They only received a few guests during their live concerts, like The Who’s Keith Moon for example.

In the conversation with Interview Magazine in 1977, three years before Led Zeppelin came to an end due to John Bonham‘s tragic death, Plant said that he would like to have invited Fleetwood Mac‘s Stevie Nicks to record with the band.

He was asked which kind of music he liked to listen to at home and he said: “Uh, I like Little Feat, Fleetwood Mac—obviously. That little lady ought to come and sing on one of our albums. If she were to come sing on one of our albums—it would…What’s her name?—Stevie…” Robert Plant said.

During the same interview he said that he didn’t think that any other member of the band and himself would record or go on stage with other bands because they really enjoyed playing with each other.

Stevie Nicks already covered Led Zeppelin

Stevie Nicks covered Led Zeppelin a couple of times, including on her recent tour in 2022, performing the track “Rock and Roll”. Curiously, Plant and Stevie were born in the same year, 1948. She is almost a month older than him since she was born in May and Plant in August.

Although she started her musical career in 1966, Nicks would really became famous after she joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975. The band was active since 1967 and had a really praised first incarnation. That line-up had the guitarist and singer Peter Green but really gained a new life after Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined the group. It was with the American musicians that they huge commercial success began.

The band formed by drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie released 18 studio albums. They have sold an estimated amount of more than 120 million records worldwide.

They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 by Sheryl Crow. Stevie Nicks was inducted as a solo act in 2019 by Harry Styles. She also had a successful solo career, with hits like “Edge of Seventeen” and “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around”.
