The Cult released “Give Me Mercy”, the first single of their upcoming album “Under The Midnight Sun”, that will be out next October 7. The official video for the track shows the two original members of the band Ian Astbury (Vocals) and Billy Duffy (Guitar). Besides the two, the band also has John Tempesta (Drums), Grant Fitzpatrick (Bass) and Damon Fox (Keyboards).
In an official statement, Astbury talked abou the new record, saying: “I was absolutely enamored with this piece of music Billy had written, and it perfectly fit these thoughts I’d been having about our culture’s need to move past assumptions of duality. We need new language because words can’t express where we’re going.”
Duffy also commented, saying: “‘Give Me Mercy’ has all the hallmarks of the new classic Cult to my ears … fresh yet familiar.”

Lyrics (Via AZ Lyrics)
“I wish it were different
It all ends the same
Your savage heart
Has stolen my name
In a wilderness lost
You’re so hard to tame
In the tides of this world
You’re a victim of fate”
“Give me mercy
Love will find you
Give me mercy
A new language”
“I don’t know
Which way to turn
Other worlds with offerings of joy
Watch the butcher’s knife
In his trembling hand
The end of the species
The shimmering veil”
“Give me mercy
Love will find you
Give me mercy
A new language”
“Give me mercy
Love will find you
Give me mercy
A new language”
“Give me mercy
Love will find you
Give me mercy
A new language”
“Give me mercy
Love will find you, love will find you
Give me mercy
Love will find you, love will find you”
Formed in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England back in 1983, The Cult started as a post-punk/gothic rock band and evolved to a sound more close to Hard Rock by the late 80s. Their most famous albums are “Love” (1985), “Electric” (1987), “Sonic Temple” (1989) and “Ceremony” (1991).
Besides his work with The Cult, singer Ian Astbury was also part of the project The Doors of the 21st Century from 2002 to 2007, a project to revive The Doors with the two original members Ray Manzarek (Keyboards) and Robby Krieger (Guitar).
