UOL – Why did you decide to retire?

Ozzy Osbourne – Black Sabbath is over and will continue my solo career. I have a family, man. I did not see my kids growing up by always being on the road. What I most want now is to be able to have more time to spend with my family.

So why announce a “Farewell Tour”?

It’s just that I’m going to slow down a bit, you know? I’ll keep performing. I’m just not going to leave home in January and get back in December. I have a home studio. I’ll keep making music. What do you like to do in the comfort of your house? Netflix?

I do everything. I like to paint, to watch TV, to read books. On December 3, it will make 70 years old. I spent 50 years traveling too much. I cannot keep up with this rhythm. It’s time to change. The problem is, people are saying I’m retiring. I am not!

What was most important to you, Black Sabbath or solo career?

I cannot compare. Playing with Sabbath is completely different from what I do in my show. Our sound had a lot of jazz and blues. My solo career is something else, very geared towards playing live. I love the [Black Sabbath] guys. I have not seen Toni [guitarist of the band] anymore since we finished the tour. Our relationship is good. Toni is well now [after treating cancer].

What is your relationship with drugs nowadays?

I stopped. I do not smoke tobacco, I do not use drugs. I dont do anything else. That was killing me, man. Why would I want to die like this?

Today my life is much, much better. I can now be a more reliable person. I can respond much better to what people expect of me. It’s much better not to drink and be sober. If someone who had told me this before, I could have done something about it. I dont drink and I dont want to use drugs anymore.

Legends of your generation left us recently: Lemmy Kilmister, David Bowie. How do you deal with the idea of ​​dying?

I do not think about death. This is not in my head. We’ll all die one day, anyway, and I’ll die, too. I’m 70 in December and I want to stay well until the end.

How’s your new solo album going?

We’re working on it. I want to record. My record company wants us to make new albums, because they think the young people are “stealing” our music on the internet, and all record labels are dying. We will see.

Ozzy, there is an American band of the 1960s, before Sabbath, called Coven. They explored occultism in the lyrics, had a bass player named Oz Osborne and a song titled “Black Sabbath.” Is not that a coincidence?
