Nicko McBrain announced his retirement from touring with Iron Maiden in 2024 due to the difficulties he faced after suffering a stroke that affected his ability to perform the songs as they were originally recorded. When he announced his retirement and the band shared a statement, it wasn’t clear if McBrain would still be part of the band in the studio. It seems that the drummer himself is not sure about that since he said in an interview with Metal Hammer that he would like to be part of the next album the band records.

“If Iron Maiden went into the studio, I’d be delighted to get back on with them,” he tells us. “But it’d have to be something more simple really. (‘Stranger In A Strange Land’ and ‘Wasted Years’). That kind of song. I’d love to do something like that.”
(I could feel only) 70 percent (of my hand during my final tour). It was incredible to get any use back out of it at all. Like, I couldn’t do the drum fill in the intro of ‘The Trooper’, so I had to adapt it. Steve (Harris) and the band were so supportive, but my body just wasn’t bouncing back,” he said.
The drummer recently announced his autobiography, “Hello Boys and Girls!” and revealed spoken-word tour dates to promote the book. So far, only European dates have been announced, and he will visit Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Malta, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Nicko McBrain was born in Hackney, London in 1952 and besides being a member of Iron Maiden for more than 40 years, he also played before with bands like Trust, Streetwalkers and Pat Travers.
