Deadland’s Ritual Matt Sorum (Ex-The Cult and Guns N’ Roses) praised The Beatles’ Ringo Starr and said the musician was the reason why he became a drummer. Sorum talked about their friendship while celebrating Starr’s 80th birthday on his Instagram.
Matt Sorum said about Ringo Starr:
“Happy 80th Birthday Ringo , this is a shot from my upcoming book that will be out next year now . The reason I became a drummer was this man. Like many of us in the mid 60s that saw The Beatles on Tv when they first came to America. They appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show.”
“Although I was a bit young their 4th appearance is what captured my attention with the song I Feel Fine. I then received a 45 record from my Brother Mark of A Hard Days night and I was never the same along with the rest of the world . Over 73 million tuned in to the Sullivan show that changed Rock n’ Roll forever.”
“I’m honored to call Ringo a friend as we’d usually be outside the Capitol building today sharing Peace And Love . You continue to be a huge inspiration in my life Ringo.”
Matt
Matt Sorum was born in Mission Viejo, California, November 19, 1960. The musician is known for his work with The Cult, Guns N ‘Roses and Velvet Revolver. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Guns N ‘Roses in 2012. He is currently the drummer of the supergroup Deadland Ritual alongside Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) and Franky Perez (Apocalyptica).
In 1990, Steven Adler, then drummer of the group, faced serious problems with drugs. His addiction to heroin and cocaine would not let him play. “We had to do 30 takes to record Civil War. He had been heavily drugged and had a bad time with the heroine. In addition, the track was extremely edited by the label”, Slash said at the time.
A clause in the contract said that every time Adler took drugs he would lose $ 30.00, but it didn’t work. Then Axl changed the clause so if he took drugs he would leave the band. So he was fired in 1990 and Slash that had already seen Matt play with the The Cult indicated Sorum.
