Despite the legal battles over the years, the longtime Ozzy Osbourne bassist and lyricist Bob Daisley lamented the death of his former boss and bandmate. Daisley was part of Ozzy’s band from 1979 to 1981, 1983 to 1985, 1988 (As a session musician), 1990 to 1991 (As a session musician) and from 1994 to 1995.
After leaving Ozzy’s band there were legal battles against Ozzy Osbourne and his wife/manager Sharon to claim songwriting credits and royalties over the successful lyrics he wrote for most of Ozzy’s successful records. In 2002, Sharon called Rob Trujillo and Mike Bordin to re-record the bass and drum tracks on “Blizzard of Ozz” and “Diary of a Madman” to avoid paying Daisley and the drummer Lee Kerslake royalties. Eventually, the original versions were restored in later reissues.
This is a sad day and it has brought me to tears. When I reminisce about Ozzy’s and my times together, I think about the fun, the laughs and of course what we created together musically, which will live much longer than these mortal bodies that we inhabit. My condolences to everyone who you’ve left behind, Ozzy. Nothing can change the true friendship that we once had; I’ll see you ‘on the other side’,” Bob Daisley said on his social media.
Born in Sydney, Australia back in 1950, Daisley was part of many incredible bands during his career. Some of them are Rainbow, Uriah Heep, Gary Moore, Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne. But besides being an incredible bass player, he also is a really fantastic lyricist and he showed that by writing the lyrics for most of the best-selling Ozzy Osbourne albums.
He was not part of the final Ozzy Osbourne concert last July 5, at the Villa Park in Birmingham, Sabbath’s hometown. Ozzy sang five songs of his solo career and four with Black Sabbath.
I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 6 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution. The studies and experience in the field helped me improve the website and always bring the best of classic rock to the world! MTB: 0021377/MG
