Julian Lennon says he is not included in The Beatles’ decisions

Born back in 1963, Julian Lennon is the oldest son of the late legendary Beatle John Lennon. Julian’s relationship with his father was never good after the Beatle left his wife Cynthia Lennon (Julian’s mother) and started a relationship with Yoko Ono. They spent a long time without seeing each other and he only reconnected a little bit in the late 70s.

After his father was killed at the age of 40 in 1980, Julian said many times that he didn’t have all the money people assumed he would naturally inherit as his heir. Julian was excluded from his father’s will, but a trust of £100,000 was created by his father to be shared between him and Sean, his half-brother. Later on, Julian sued his father’s estate, and in 1996, they reached a settlement agreement, reportedly authorized by Yoko Ono, for £20 million.

Being part of the family’s inner circle or involved in his father’s estate was never easy. In an interview with The Guardian, the musician and photographer said that The Beatles’ business decisions are kept quite secret, and his half-brother Sean shares only what he is allowed about upcoming plans.

“It’s news to me half the time. I’m not part of the inner circle – I never have been. You have to realise that when Dad left, when I was between three and five (it was a bit of a process), it was just mum and me, and we had nothing to do with the Beatles or Dad.”

“I visited him on the odd occasion but we were very much on the outside. I’m thankful that Sean and I get on like a house on fire – we’re best buddies and he tells me what he can, but things are pretty secret on the Beatles front.”

“(It is) extraordinarily strange but I’m not upset about it. I’d rather be excited and impressed by what they did and continue to do. As a fan, I’m just as curious as anybody else, although I do find myself going, how is it possible that there’s another Beatles film?” Julian Lennon said.

I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 6 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution.
