Historical AC/DC house was accidentally demolished
A historical place for AC/DC fans, the house where AC/DC was formed in Sydney, Australia back in 1973 was accidentally demolished. The house number 4 of the Burleigh Street was the childhood home of Malcolm, Angus (AC/DC) and George Young (Easybeats).

Although the house was listed on the National Trust List of Historic Homes since 2013, the place was demolished a few weeks ago after being purchased by developers in the beginning of 2023 for 5.8 million australian dollars.
The company Burwood Square Pty Ltd released a statement, signed by their general manager Leon Kmita, saying they only discovered after the demolition that the house was connected to AC/DC. The company said they were sorry for what happened and that they are committed to salvage materials from the site to create a special place for fans where they can gather and celebrate the band’s legacy.
The company that accidentally demolished the AC/DC historical house said:
“On behalf of the team at Burwood Square, I want to convey our heartfelt regret that we have only just learnt of the cultural significance of 4 Burleigh Street, the former home of AC/DC, one of music history’s most iconic bands. We now recognize how deeply this location resonates with the AC/DC community and fans worldwide. As we developed plans for this space, we conducted due diligence, including consulting heritage registers and collaborating with experts in the field.”
“Unfortunately, the historical connection to AC/DC was not identified at that stage, and we regret that the previous long-term owner did not share this vital part of the property’s background with us. We are genuinely sorry for this oversight. Learning about this connection after our plans were already underway has shocked us. We feel a strong responsibility to honor AC/DC’s legacy and to make amends to all the fans who hold this band in such high regard. While we cannot change the past, we are dedicated to celebrating this significant part of their story.”
They continued:
“We are now salvaging materials from the demolition to create a special space, such as a café, bar, or live music venue, where fans can gather to celebrate the band’s enduring legacy. We are also committed to seeking a collaboration with the Young family, fan groups and cultural experts to ensure our tribute is meaningful and respectful,” Burwood Square said.
Burdwood Square bought more places in the street with the intention to build an almost 29 million dollars residential site. The Burdwood region was the first home of the Young family after they migrated from Scotland in 1963. They first lived in a hostel and other houses before finding the Burleigh Street house in 1965.
AC/DC was formed in Sidney, Australia back in 1973 by the brothers Angus and Malcolm Young and in the following years became one of the biggest bands in the world. But as they said “It’s a Long Way to the Top” and they lived and played in Australia for a few years before they started to play in Europe and United States, for example.
