Heart’s Nancy Wilson says is embarrassing to be American now

Donald Trump’s second term started just a few months ago, and there have been many radical changes in the United States and around the world. Like many other countries, the U.S. has been divided for almost a decade, and political hatred has increased, separating families and friends. Not many people agree with that, nor with the actions and attitude of the president. One of them is Heart co-founder and guitarist Nancy Wilson. In an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, she recalled that a few decades ago, it was embarrassing to be American due to the Vietnam War, but in her opinion, it is now even more embarrassing.

“We were kind of embarrassed at that time to call ourselves American because of the dirty politics of the Vietnam War. To be as subtle as possible, it’s more embarrassing (to be American) now. (…) (Barracuda) is even more relevant in the salacious billionaire culture with the grab-them-by-the-pussy mentality. These songs will be there long after we are gone.”

“I think for women in the culture the pendulum will come back again, and there’ll be another renaissance in the arts to push back against the oppression of the cranky old rich white guys. I hope I am alive to see that next revolution,” Nancy Wilson said.

Heart: Barracuda | The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 6 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution. The studies and experience in the field helped me improve the website and always bring the best of classic rock to the world! MTB: 0021377/MG
