Ex-bandmates and Rock stars react to Venom frontman Cronos’ death

Venom‘s vocalist and bassist has passed away at the age of 63. The news was shared by the band on social media without revealing the cause of death. They also shared a message from Nathan, Conrad’s son: “I want to thank all of the Legions for all of the support you have given my dad over the years. I know he really appreciated you all. He has laid down his soul, and his music will live on. The legend of Cronos will never die.” Since the announcement, his former bandmates and many rock stars have written tributes to him.

Jeff “Mantas” Dunn (Original Venom guitarist)

“May I thank you all for the overwhelming outpouring of appreciation and condolences. Justly deserved I believe. I speak for myself and Abaddon (Antony Bray, original Venom drummer) who I spoke to today when I say that, despite the turbulent history of this band, it was at the end of the day the three of us, who started something so special and changed the direction, the movement and the history of Metal as we know it.”

“We were aware of the news two days ago, but obviously without the consent and wishes of Conrad’s family, we were not at liberty to say anything to anyone and we respected that. At times like this the thing I remember is the friendship that we had in those early days, that one for all, all for one mentality, that rebellious quality and the absolute driven urge to be something so different whether it was accepted or not.”

“I still have many early video footage recordings of the three of us where we just laughed sometimes for no other reason than just being silly, our sense of humor was an acquired taste. I thank you all for the countless messages and as I’ve said, despite the history, the arguments, the name-calling, the ups and downs and the dysfunctional manner of this band, this hits hard. I shall speak to you tomorrow, my friends. Rest in power, Conrad Cronos Lant,” Jeff “Mantas” Dunn said.

Gary Holt (Exodus and Slayer)

“Well I’m devastated by this news. One of my all time hero’s is no longer with us. The two Bonded era tours @exodusbandofficial did with @venom_band_official have and will always go down as the greatest tours we’ve ever done. Young kids touring with your biggest hero’s ? How do you top that? You can’t . This one has me sadder than you can imagine. Fucking gutted. He helped shape Exodus into what we became. I owe him a debt that cannot be repaid. Thank you brother🤘🏻💔🤘🏻” he said.

Phil Anselmo (Pantera)

“He was the King of Black Metal, hands-down. RIP Big Brother”, he said

Doro Pesch (Warlock)

“This is a tough one. I still remember getting the first Venom album ‘Welcome To Hell’ as a birthday present back then. And, man, did I spin that record! Rest in peace, #Cronos! Lay down your soul to the gods rock’n’roll forever!” she said.

Mille Petrozza (Kreator)

“Thank you, Chronos. Without you Kreator wouldn’t exist. Rest in absolute power,” he said.

Exodus

All of Exodus are simply crushed by the news that our hero Cronos of the mighty @venomband has passed. Venom shaped who we are. We love them, loved touring with them, and Baloff and the rest of us worshipped them. He will be missed. Thrash metal would not be what it is without you. And so much more.,” the band said.

Iggor Cavalera (Ex-Sepultura, Cavalera Conspiracy)

“Rest in peace Cronos… We had the privilege of opening for Venom on their 1986 tour in Brazil. Picture 2 is of a young skull crusher wathing some og black metal. Picture 3 is of two brothers in league with satan… Condolences to the Conrad family … Hails,” he said.
