Def Leppard’s Phil Collen says he never gets stage fright

The British guitarist Phil Collen is a member of Def Leppard since 1982 and was part of the classic albums “Pyromania” (1983), “Hystera” (1987) and “Adrenalize” (1992). Even after decades touring around the world and playing to huge crowds many musicians say that they still get stage fright. But, Phil Collen said in an interview with CNN En Español that he never gets stage fright at all, because it’s all a matter of confidence.

“Everyone in the band has a different approach. I always say I never get stage fright — never… I enjoy it — absolutely — but it’s almost like an avatar goes on stage. If I’ve rehearsed and my voice is good and the guitar playing is enough and I’m in shape enough, there’s a confidence that the avatar just takes over. So I can actually enjoy it in a different way.”

“Everyone in the band is very different,” Collen reiterated. “And it comes down to the confidence thing. So I can really appreciate it and I can see the whole audience and really get energy off of that, is when it just makes it even more profound, the experience,” Phil Collen said.

Def Leppard just finished in March their Mexican and South American tour alongside Mötley Crüe. They will return to the road with the American group to continue their world tour in Europe. The group will play in the United Kingdom, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Ireland and United States.

I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 6 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution. The studies and experience in the field helped me improve the website and always bring the best of classic rock to the world! MTB: 0021377/MG
