The song

Released in October 1977 “We Will Rock You” was written by Freddie Mercury. The song belongs to the album News of the World, released in the same year. Since it’s release is one of his most famous and popular songs, it is one of the greatest hymns in the history of rock.

The song was built on audience response following a concert at Bingley Hall, Stafford in which the audience sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone” to the band. In addition, it embodies numerous elements of arena rock. With Brian May stating, “We wanted to get the crowds waving and singing. It’s very unifying and positive.”

The ballad was a worldwide success. Reaching the second position on the UK Singles Chart, and the fourth on the United States Billboard Hot 100. In 2009, “We Are The Champions” was introduced to the Grammy Hall of Fame. Also was voted the world’s favorite song in a Sony Ericsson poll in 2005. In 2011, a team of scientific researchers concluded that music is the most catchy and sticky in the history of popular music.

Also became an anthem for sporting victories. It was the 1994 World Cup theme song, and has been frequently used and cited in popular culture. The song was also re-recorded by many artists.
