Artists are releasing more songs due to streaming platforms success

Girl listening to music

As Spotify, Apple Music and other music streaming platforms have become the dominant way of listeners, artists are adjusting to this condition, according to The Wall Street Journal.

As summarized by UPROXX, Discogs disc collection site reports that the amount of music released worldwide since the 1960s has increased approximately 7 times. And because of the way artists make money from streaming music services, that number continues to grow. Last year, 150,000 albums sold at least one digital or physical copy, compared with only 36,000 in 2000.

“Unlike CDs or downloads, which generate revenue only once, streaming a song generates royalty each time it’s heard. There are big record companies launching music catalogs and reissuing old songs while battling for market share”.
