Art Garfunkel talks about reconciling with Paul Simon

Although he is best known as a singer, Art Garfunkel (85), who achieved fame alongside Paul Simon in the duo Simon & Garfunkel, talked with The Guardian about his life and about reconciling with his longtime musical partner. According to him, they had dinner about a year ago, hugged, cried, and made plans to see each other again. Art is currently on the road with his What a Wonderful World tour.

“That was about a year ago and I haven’t seen him in the last year. (About Simon’s recent tour he asked the interviewer) Did he speak much? How many musicians did he have? You know what I think is more interesting? Walking from western Ireland to Istanbul. But yes, we got together. Who knows what the future will bring? Life is a surprise. I don’t know what happens next month. I don’t know what happens after we die.”

(…) “I am a singer – there, use that as the title of your article. I’ve been an actor. I am a writer. I’ve walked across countries, taken freighters across oceans. I’ve read the dictionary. I’ve read two books a month for 60 years: Darwin, Herodotus, Balzac, Proust, Tolstoy. I’ve taught maths. I have two great kids and I’m a great father, but it always does seem to come back to the singing,” he told The Guardian’s Dave Simpson.

During the same interview he revealed some of the things he still want to do in life: “Sail around the world, see India and China, sing in South America. I don’t wanna go into space. I hope I come across as philosophical. I’m a thinker, a book reader, a walker, but mostly I’m a singer. I’m always very nervous, behind the curtain. Then I walk out and hear the applause and I flip from fear to confidence right there,” he said.

I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 9 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution. The studies and experience in the field helped me improve the website and always bring the best of classic rock to the world! MTB: 0021377/MG
