Airbnb has just announced another expansion for the music business.
Entitled Airbnb Concerts, the platform promises to provide a more intimate experience for music fans. In it, users will be able to find a series of concerts in unusual places, like music studios, cathedrals or even wineries.
This is not the first tool the company develops for the area. Last year, the organization launched Music Experiences, which turned out to be a success.
Head of the company’s music division, James Beshara told Billboard the idea behind the expansion of Airbnb to other lines.
He said:
“It’s very exciting to see it grow organically. I think music fans around the world are clamoring for this kind of format and intimate connection with artists. Five years from now I think more people will experience music in an intimate environment like this than in big arenas like now, or stadiums and festivals. That is the size of the potential that I think [this branch] has and it should have us play a substantial part in it.”
To show the potential of the platform, the company recently organized a series of presentations by Australian singer Vance Joy. Joy played for 70 people a night, with tickets costing around $ 75 – which included a meet & greet and question and answer session.
When it comes to business, Airbnb will charge a 20% fee for each show. In addition, all shows must be evaluated and approved by Airbnb before they are available on the site.
