Anthrax is currently promoting their latest album “Cursum Perficio” that will be released next September 18 and in an interview with Brewtally Speaking Podcast, the band’s longtime bassist Frank Bello talked about the friendship between the members of the band, saying it’s like a marriage these days.
These days Anthrax is formed by Scott Ian (Guitar), Joey Belladonna (Vocals), Charlie Benante (Drums), Frank Bello (Bass) and Jon Donais (Guitar).
Frank Bello talks about the friendship between Anthrax members
“Oh, it’s a total marriage. It’s a total marriage. You know what it is? It’s a family. What happens is it’s a family. You have brothers and sisters — some people do, some people don’t, but if you do, you understand. Or even cousins, whatever it is. Occasionally, look, some shit goes on, and that’s the bottom line. You have to weather the storms. I mean, like everything else, man. It’s, look, life.”
“People have different personalities. People get married to different people. All that stuff happens within this whole process of being a band for 40-some-odd years, we’re together. And you know what? The one thing that we do know that this works, and what makes it all work for us when we get together as a band, that step onto the Anthrax stage, there’s no feeling. To this day, I could tell you, honestly, dude, there’s no feeling like stepping onto an Anthrax stage for me.”
“I think the other guys feel the same. There’s an energy that I can’t explain that there’s no other part … I don’t have it anywhere near in my life that the energy going on an Anthrax stage, because it just goes from 1 to 10 immediately, and you’re on. And everything, everything for me is fulfilled. It’s just the audience, and you’re one with the audience, dude, and that is the drug you keep going after. And all the other shit goes away.”
“Everything else goes away. Whatever. You had a bad day, whatever. You had an argument with one of the bandmembers, whatever, and that shit happens. Every band has arguments. It doesn’t matter. The idea is that you have to get over it and move on because it’s for the good of the band and the good of the music, and that’s why I think we’re still around,” he said (Transcribed by Blabbermouth).
