Glenn Hughes cancels tour due to open-heart surgery

Bassist and singer Glenn Hughes has canceled his tour dates and revealed that he will undergo open-heart surgery. After being advised by his doctors, Hughes said he has no choice but to undergo the procedure and thanked his fans for their support.

Glenn Hughes said about open-heart surgery

“This past year, I’ve had some health issues. The results from numerous MRIs, CT scans, and an echocardiogram have alerted my medical team, that I need another open-heart surgery. I really have no option and no choice as health is my number one priority. Grateful to have been chosen with a life full with the gift of music… Thank you for walking beside me. – Your friend Glenn,” he said.

Hughes first became known as a member of Trapeze, later joining Deep Purple in 1973, being part of the albums Burn (1974), “Stormbringer” (1974) and “Come Taste the Band” (1975). He also recorded many praised albums with other bands like Black Sabbath (“Seventh Star” – 1986), Phenomena and his more recent groups Black Country Communion, California Breed and The Dead Daisies. As a solo artist, Hughes has been extremely prolific, having released his solo debut “Play Me Out” in 1977 and 17 more albums until 2025, “Chosen” being the most recent one.

His most recent live performance was last Saturday Night in Rancho Mirage, leading the Kings of Chaos supergroup. They performed Deep Purple classics, including “Stormbringer”.

I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 9 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution. The studies and experience in the field helped me improve the website and always bring the best of classic rock to the world! MTB: 0021377/MG
