Bruce and Steve say they’d skip Rock Hall induction even if they weren’t touring

Iron Maiden is finally being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, joining the small group of Heavy Metal bands honored by the institution. Initially, the band’s manager, Rod Smallwood, said they would not attend the ceremony because of previously scheduled tour dates. However, in an interview with Metal Hammer, the group’s leader, bassist, and primary lyricist Steve Harris and the vocalist Bruce Dickinson said they wouldn’t attend the ceremony even if the band weren’t on tour.

Bruce said only “No,” when asked if they were not touring on the days of the ceremony. Steve completed, saying: “I don’t do those sort of things. I didn’t even go to the recent red carpet thing for the documentary. It’s not me.”

Over the years, the band was asked multiple times about the possibility of being inducted, and its members consistently said they didn’t really care whether they were in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or not. Many fans have shared that view, arguing that the institution has increasingly inducted artists outside the traditional rock genre while leaving influential rock and heavy metal bands, such as Iron Maiden, waiting for years. As a result, a significant portion of the band’s fanbase has lost respect for the Hall and no longer considers it an important honor.

Beside Iron Maiden will also be inducted this year Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Fela Kuti, Oasis, Gram Parsons, Linda Creed, Celia Cruz, Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller, Queen Latifah, Rick Rubin, Sade, Ed Sullivan, Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan.
