The mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap” was directed by Rob Reiner and released in 1984. Starred by Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer, the costed around 2 million dollars and made 4.7 million dollars only in North America. Although it wasn’t a blockbuster, it became a cult-following movie and is often mentioned by famous artists as one of their favorite movies.

Almost 40 years later, Reiner announced that they are making a sequel to the film and it will have special appearances by Paul McCartney, Elton John and Garth Brooks. He revealed that in an interview with “RHLSTP With Richard Herring” podcast.
Rob Reiner said about Paul McCartney and Elton John in Spinal Tap sequence:
“We’re going to start shooting at the end of February, and everybody is back. They’ve played Albert Hall, played Wembley Stadium, all over the country and in Europe. They haven’t spent any time together recently.”
“The idea was that Ian Faith, who was their manager, he passed away. In reality, Tony Hendra passed away. Ian’s widow inherited a contract that said Spinal Tap owed them one more concert. She was basically going to sue them if they didn’t.”
“All these years and a lot of bad blood we’ll get into and they’re thrown back together and forced to deal with each other and play this concert.”
About his role as the documentarian Marty DiBergi, he said:
“The band was upset with the first film. They thought I did a hatchet job and this was a chance to redeem myself. I am such a big fan and I felt bad they didn’t like what they saw in the first film.”
“When I heard they might get back together, I was a visiting adjunct teacher’s helper at the Ed Wood School of Cinematic Arts. I drop everything to document this final concert,” Rob Reiner said.
Besides the soundtrack of the movie released in 1984, the band also released two other albums over the years. One in 1992 called “Break Like the Wind” and the other “Back From The Dead” In 2009.
