Formed in Huntington Park, California back in 1981, Slayer became one of the most influential Thrash Metal bands of all time. During their 38 year career the band released 12 studio albums and have sold an estimated amount of more than 20 million records worldwide.

The group decided to retire back in 2019 and at the time the only two original members were Tom Araya (Bass and vocals) and Kerry King (Guitar). They were accompanied by the guitarist Gary Holt and the drummer Paul Bostaph. In an interview during a guitar clinic, reported by Blabbermouth, Holt was asked if he thought the band could reunite someday and tour again. The musician answered that he doesn’t think that will happen.
“Ah, man. You’ve gotta talk to other people. That’s outta my pay grade. Look, if anybody ever asked me to do it, of course I’d be down to do it. But I don’t think it’s ever gonna happen. I think the band’s ended. Unlike all the other farewell tours that started five years ago and are still continuing, I think this one’s over.”
“It was totally fun (The farewell tour). I mean, it was the final, last-ever tour. It was a good time. You tried not to let it get weird on you, as far as, like, ‘This is it.’ I never really thought about it ending until the last final of the two shows. It kind of dawned on me. But that was a good one. I’ll remember that tour forever. It was fucking rad,” Gary Holt said.
After the end of Slayer, Holt returned to his original band Exodus in full-time. Their most recent album “Persona Non Grata” was released in 2021. They don’t have tour dates scheduled at the time.
I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 6 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution.
