The profession that Joe Perry would like to have if he wasn’t a rock star

The legendary Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry is part of one of the best-selling bands of all time and it is not easy to think about him doing anything else than playing the guitar like he always did and influencing millions of musicians worldwide. However, as he told Spin Magazine in an interview, if he wasn’t a rock star he knowns exactly with what he would like to work with.

The profession that Aerosmith’s Joe Perry would like to have if he wasn’t a rock star:

When the interviewer commented that Joe Perry’s childhood dream was to be a marine biologist and that parents used to drive him to Boston to heard lectures made by the famous Jacques, who was a French naval officer, explorer and researcher who studied the sea and all forms of life in water, the guitarist said: “You really hit a spot there. I’ve always loved (Diving). Me and Billie (His wife) haven’t gotten to it here (In Florida) yet. But we have a shortlist of places we want to go.”

“I have to say, I was thinking about maybe doing one more run (With Aerosmith) and then taking six months and diving in some of these places that I’ve never been to. I kind of doubt that’s going to happen. But yes, if my life wasn’t captured by the whole dream of rock and roll, I definitely would be spending it on the water.”

The musician continued recalling a few close calls he had over the years when diving:

“We’ve had a few close calls over the years. One time (In Cuba), Billie and I were at a spot way past La Reina. The tide went out, and there was nothing but lava rocks. So trying to come in was really, really scary. We had to take our gear off (In the water). The water was also getting really cloudy and it was getting later in the day. That’s when the sharks come out. Not a comfortable time.”

“It was wonderful the last time (Billie and I) were diving with Steven in Hawaii. Steven and I were down like 110 feet. It was the first real wreck dive that I’d ever done. A lot of fun. Steven and I have had a lot of adventures over the years, and not just diving.”

Joe Perry will be performing with Aerosmith during their Las Vegas Residency in 2022 that will happen in June, July, September, October, November and December.

Aerosmith

Formed in Boston, Massachusetts back in 1970, Aerosmith sold an estimated amount of 150 million records worldwide, what makes them one of the best-selling groups in history. The band had a successful career in the 70s, releasing records that were very influential and had moderate commercial success.

In 1984, with the return of the guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford to the group after they left in the late 70s and early 80s, the band evolved their sound to a more commercial approach and went to another level of commercial success. Over the 80s and 90s they had dozens of hits that were a huge success on radios and MTV.

They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame back in 2001.
