The festivals
the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock festival has frantically driven the internet since the turn of the year due to the fact that two events have been scheduled to roll on August 16, 17 and 18.
At the end of December, the website of the Bethel Woods Center For The Arts announced the celebration of the festival’s 50th anniversary at the venue where the event was originally held in Bethel, New York. Soon after, on January 9, Michael Lang, co-creator of the 1969 festival, confirmed to the American press that he will give a tribute event to Woodstock’s half-century anniversary in the vicinity of the Watkins Glen Speedway in New York, same date: 16, 17 and 18 August.
Both the rural Bethel area event and Watkins Glen announced their line-up before March, Bethel went ahead but did not feature a supergroup or reunion of some iconic band.
This has raised the rumors that the festival promoted by Lang is expected to have a much larger weight on his team of artists, but that is not what ended up rolling, since the names are strong but without any great band reunion of the old, as was expected.
Leaving the bands aside, both the Bethel party and the Watkins Glen region will have sustainability-oriented purposes. In the rural zone where the original festival was held there is a preview of TED-style lectures by leading futurists and technology experts. At Lang’s Woodstock, the promise is that conferences with personalities struggling to defend the environment will be prominent.
