The rumors about Ace’s return to KISS were getting stronger in the last year after he teamed up with Paul Stanley on a cover of Freee’s “Fire And Water”, which was their first collaboration since “Psycho Circus” in 1998.
In 1996, he rejoined Kiss for a successful reunion tour with all four original members of the band performed live for the first time since original drummer Peter Criss’ departure in 1980. After the tour, they announced that the original lineup would return to the studio to record a new album. The resulting record, Psycho Circus, was promoted with a successful world tour, but it was revealed a couple of years later that Frehley’s and Criss’s involvement on it was minimal.
Stanley told Billboard earlier this year that he had no interest in a reunion of KISS’s original lineup. But, Ace had also played live with Gene Simmons recently in a benefit concert.
