Mötley Crüe is currently promoting “Dogs of War“, their new single released this week which is their first track with the new guitarist John 5, who replaced the band’s original guitar player Mick Mars. In an interview with Outsider podcast (Transcribed by Blabbermouth), the vocalist Vince Neil talked about the band’s discography and said that he hates their 1997 album “Generation Swine”.
Neil left the band in 1992 and the group recruited John Corabi, who was the singer on their self-titled album released in 1994. He was part of the band until 1997 when Neil re-joined the group during the recording of “Generation Swine”, which would be Corabi’s second album with Crüe.
Vince Neil talked about Mötley Crüe’s “Generation Swine” album, saying:
“I hated that record. I still hate that record. (There are) no good songs on it. And I told ’em, I go, ‘This record sucks.’ ‘No. We love it. We love it,'” Vince Neil said.
During the same conversation he explained why he returned to the band and how that happened. “Well, when Mötley went out (With John Corabi), their tickets stopped selling. And I was doing pretty good. But I wasn’t selling out places. I was opening for guys. And so their manager called me up and said, ‘We’d like to meet with you in New York.'”
“So I flew to New York and sat there and talked to ’em.’ And it took a while for me to say ‘okay.’ But I finally gave in and went to the recording studio where they were making ‘Generation Swine’, which was at Nikki’s (Sixx) house. And… I don’t know. It was bad for a while, ’cause I didn’t wanna be there,” Vince Neil said.
“Generation Swine” peaked at number 4 on the United States Billboard 200 at the time and John Corabi was credited on the album for his backing vocals and as rhythm guitarist. Although it performed well at the time and has a fanbase, the band did not feature songs from the album on their reunion tour.
