Written by David Coverdale, Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden, “Fool For Your Loving” was Whitesnake’s first big hit, peaking at number 13 on the UK Singles Chart and 53 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. But in 1989 the track was remade for the album “Slip of The Tongue”, reaching a new audience and becoming a hit again. In an interview with Outlaw Magazine, David Coverdale recalled that he actually wrote the song for B.B. King but liked it so much that he decided to keep it.

“Bernie (Marsden) had done an interview with B.B. (King), whom we all adored, and he asked us to write something for him. He loved what we’d done with ‘Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City’ – as did Bobby Bland, by the way.”

“When we listened back to the demo of Fool For Your Loving, we agreed we should keep it. Sorry, B.B.! That demo is actually the track featured on Ready An’ Willing,” David Coverdale said.

Curiously, the same thing happened with “Is This Love”, one of the band’s biggest hits, which was originally written with Tina Turner in mind. “A friend at EMI had asked me for any ideas that would work for Tina Turner. So that was where the original idea for Is This Love came from,” he said. The track peaked at number 9 in the UK and number 2 in the United States.

Deep Purple‘s MK III line-up dissolved in 1976 and in 1978 David Coverdale formed Whitesnake. The original line-up also had Bernie Marsden, Mick Moody, Neil Murray and Dave “Duck” Dowle. Two former Coverdale Deep Purple bandmates joined the band afterwards: Jon Lord (1978 to 1984) and Ian Paice (1979 to 1982).
