Jon Bon Jovi started his career more than four decades ago and his band Bon Jovi became one of the best-selling of all time, with an estimated amount of more than 120 million records sold worldwide. With all the success, he had the chance to meet many of his heroes and become a good friend of them.
In an interview with Time Out Dubai back in 2010, he was asked who was his favorite Rock star besides himself and he revealed who it is.

‘Elton John… greatest guy in the biz. Elton loves music. He buys records every week, he encourages young artists, he has taken more than one and made them into stars.”
“Can you imagine getting a call when you’re some nobody kid named James Blunt five years ago. (Elton was) going ‘Hi, it’s Elton John, I want to help you.’ You’d probably just s*** yourself,’ Jon Bon Jovi said.
Elton John is one of the most successful artists of all time. He has sold an estimated amount of more than 300 million records worldwide and retired from touring back in 2023 after more than six decades on the road. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 by the Guns N’Roses vocalist and pianist Axl Rose.
Elton John played on Jon Bon Jovi’s solo album
As Bon Jovi said, Elton is really a music lover and unlike many famous artists, he keeps interested in hearing new musicians from all music genres. He keeps supporting them, helping to promote their records and even recording with them.
Elton did that with Bon Jovi back in 1990, when he ended up recording his first solo effort. It was the soundtrack of the Western “Young Guns II”, released that same year.
He talked about that partnership with Elton John in an interview with Howard Stern (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage). “I simply asked him. We had met a couple of times. At that junction he just happened to be in L.A. He came over and he played on a song. Elton said: ‘Do you want me to sing on it as well?’”
He continued:
“I said: ‘Uh, yes please’. So he sang in a song called ‘Dyin’ Ain’t Much of a Livin’. He plays the piano, when I needed a great piano player Elton came in,” Jon Bon Jovi said.
“Blaze of Glory” became a worldwide hit. It peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and also in countries like Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
Besides Beck and Elton, that record also had many other famous guests. Some of them were Little Richard, Aldo Nova, Randy Jackson and Lou Diamond Phillips.
