The Doors song that David Bowie said that he liked

David Bowie

Formed in Los Angeles, California in 1965 by Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore, The Doors became one of the most influential bands of all time. Their career was cut short in 1973 when they decided to end the band after their released two albums without their legendary singer Jim Morrison, who died in 1971 at the age of 27. Over the years many famous musicians praised the American and one of them was the late David Bowie, who revealed which was one of his favorite The Doors songs when he listed in a radio interview made available by Raised On Radio (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage), some of his favorite tracks.

The Doors song that David Bowie said that he liked

“It’s a big gray out today but I’ve got some water and I’ve got a bunch of records. So I think if I was walking outside at the moment I would like to be walking on this street. It’s ‘Love Street’ by The Doors. A commanding performer (Jim Morrison), I remember seeing him once at I think it was the Roundhouse when they came to London the first time,” David Bowie said in the radio interview

“Love Street” was written by Jim Morrison and the lyrics were dedicated to his girlfriend Pamela Courson.

The track first appeared on the band’s third studio album “Waiting For The Sun” in 1968. That record also had other famous songs  like “Hello, I Love You”, “Not To Touch Earth” and “Five To One”.

The keyboardist Ray Manzarek was a fan of Bowie

The late The Doors co-founder and keyboardist Ray Manzarek was a fan of David Bowie and he even talked in a Rolling Stone special back in 1995 (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage) about how incredible the music videos made by the British musician were incredible.

Before presenting, Bowie’s “Fashion” music video, Manzarek said: “One of my favorite David Bowie music videos. Back in the 70s, it was a real treat the next David Bowie video. You never knew what he was going to do or was it in the mid-80s. I don’t know, somewhere in there, who knows. By the time you get to be my age those decades begin blur together.”

“Whether it was the late 70s or early 80s, I’m not exactly sure, but there were a series of videos that were coming out by David Bowie and each of them were more inventive than the one before. I would say that he was like the reigning king of video. One after the another, they were all excellently put together.”

Manzarek said:

“‘China Girl’ obviously is one of those and ‘Fashion’ is one in which David Bowie has the great line which I never understood: ‘They can’t do it here, so they do it over there. Beep, beep, fashion’ and that great bass line that is sort of funky. I love that kind of bass line. So I think this is David Bowie at the peak of his form.”

“I don’t think that the Thin White Duke has ever equaled this. Although evidently he is getting ready to go out with Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails. Whether he is going out actually with Nine Inch Nails or with just Trent we don’t know. But it will be interesting to see what David Bowie comes up with this time around now that he is a mature gentleman and he married a woman, which is a good thing to marry, the beautiful model Iman. She is just fantastic, what a great person she is,” Ray Manzarek said.

In the same interview the musician said that he didn’t had the chance to meet Bowie face to face yet.
