The Aerosmith vocalist Steven Tyler, who recently started to perform live again on special occasions, and the surviving members of Soundgarden were added to the final Black Sabbath show, which will happen next July 5 in Birmingham, England.
The information was revealed by Ozzy Osbourne‘s wife and manager Sharon Osbourne in an interview with The Guardian. The musical director of the show is the Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello and he revealed that “there’s some pretty great surprises that are not posted anywhere. (It will be) the greatest day in the history of heavy metal”.
It wasn’t easy to convince the Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi that the final show was a good idea
According to the article from the British newspaper, the band’s guitarist Tony Iommi was the one who they need to work harder to convince this final charity show would be a good idea.“I’m the one that said, ‘I don’t know if we should do it’, because we did a farewell tour and I didn’t want to get into that thing like all the other bands are doing, saying it’s the last tour and then reappearing again. But I’ve been convinced, because we’re doing it for a reason. No one’s getting paid or anything,” Tony Iommi said.
The special show will raise money for Parkinson’s and children’s charities. Sabbath will do a few songs with the original line-up, Ozzy Osbourne will also sing a few songs from his solo career during the show. But they won’t performa full set and Ozzy might be on a throne during his performance.
Besides Soundgarden and Steven Tyler, will also be part of the show: Sammy Hagar, Guns N’ Roses, Tool, Rival Sons, Andrew Watt, Dave Ellefson, Vernon Reid, Whitfield Crane and the actor Jason Momoa as the host. Other previously announced acts are Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Slash, KK Downing, Jake E. Lee, Papa V Perpetua (Ghost), Rudy Sarzo, Tom Morello and Wolfgang Van Halen.
