The ex-Pink Floyd bassist and singer Roger Waters revealed in an interview with The Telegraph that he re-recorded the band’s best-selling album “Dark Side of The Moon” released in 1973 (More than 45 million copies sold worldwide). He was a member of the band from 1965 until 1985 when he decided to leave.
The group continued as a trio with David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason releasing two more studio albums with that line-up.
On his solo career, Waters have released four main studio albums and several other side projects. In the interview he said that he wrote “Dark Side of The Moon” and that his ex-bandmates can’t write.
Roger Waters says re-recorded Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of The Moon”
“”I wrote ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’. Let’s get rid of all this ‘we’ crap! Of course, we were a band, there were four of us, we all contributed – but it’s my project and I wrote it. So… blah!””
“They can’t write songs, they’ve nothing to say. They are not artists! They have no ideas, not a single one between them. They never have had, and that drives them crazy,” Roger Waters said.
The Telegraph journalist Fane Saunders heard the new Waters version and described the tracks, saying:
“‘Time’, that young man’s lament for mortality, sounds terrific with his old man’s timbre. ‘Breathe’ is wonderfully reimagined as a slow, acoustic groove. A country-tinged ‘Money’ could be a late Johnny Cash cut, with Waters growling charismatically at the very bottom of his register.”
“But, surprisingly, Waters seems to have decided that what was wrong with the original album’s beautiful instrumental tracks was that they didn’t have Waters talking all over them. Now they do,” Fane Saunders said.
There is still no information about the release of this new Roger Waters version for “Dark Side of The Moon”.
