The singer and songwriter Peter Gabriel co-founded Genesis in 1967 and decided to leave the group 8 years later in 1975 after recording six studio albums with the group. Two years later in 1977 he started his solo career and since then he became a very successful solo artist.

In an interview with Uncut magazine, the musician said that he has a good relationship with his ex-bandmates from Genesis but he prefers to be a solo artist.

Genesis did a reunion tour in the last two years, featuring Mike Rutherford, Phil Collins and Tony Banks. Even though he wasn’t part of the show, Gabriel went to watch the group’s final concert on March 26, 2022 at the O2 Arena in London. He talked about that experience and why he prefers to be a solo artist.

“There’s a lot of history there. It was lovely to see Phil (Collins) again, though he wasn’t as strong as I remember him. But it brought back a lot of memories. I was very glad I was there. I had been there at the beginninh. So I should be there at the end.”

“I don’t see (the members of Genesis) very often. But I enjoy my relationships with those guys. I love the freedom of being able to do what I want, when I want, how I want. That’s fine to give up on a particular project, but as a state of living, I don’t want to be having arguments again,” Peter Gabriel said.

The musician recently announced his new solo album “i/0” and an extensive tour in Europe, United States and Canada to promote the new record. It is the 10th studio record made by the musician since 1977.

At those shows his he will be accompanied by the musicians Tony Levin, David Rhodes and Manu Katché.
