Paul and Gene’s restaurants give food to US government officials

The Rock & Brews restaurant network will offer free meals to all Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees who are working unpaid due to the partial shutdown of the United States government. The initiative was announced by Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, Kiss musicians who run the company.

“We are proud to operate airport restaurants and respect the hard work of all TSA employees to ensure passenger safety. While working for no consideration, the least we can do is to offer a delicious meal to show our support,” said Stanley and Simmons said in a joint statement.

The restaurants offer, free of charge, the pulled pork sandwich dishes or the field strawberry salad for one meal a day. The offer remains until TSA employees are paid. Rock & Brews units at airports, arenas and casinos are not part of the initiative for safety reasons.

Government Shutdown

In United States politics, a government shutdown occurs when Congress fails to pass sufficient appropriation bills or continuing resolutions to fund federal government operations and agencies, or when the President refuses to sign such bills or resolutions into law.

In such cases, the current interpretation of the Antideficiency Act requires that the federal government begin a “shutdown” of the affected activities involving the furlough of non-essential personnel and curtailment of agency activities and services. Essential employees are still required to work without pay until the government reopens, when they may then receive back pay. These employees may include medical professionals in the Veterans Hospitals and TSA agents.
