Motörhead’s guitarist for 31 years, Phil Campbell died at the age of 64. According to his family, he passed away peacefully following “a long and courageous battle in intensive care after a complex major operation”.
Since Lemmy Kilmister passed away in 2015 and Motörhead came to an end, he has been touring and recording with his own group Phil Campbell and The Bastard Sons, which features his three sons. During the group’s existence, they have released two EPs and four studio albums, the most recent being “Kings of the Asylum” (2023).
The statement released by the family of Phil Campbell
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Philip Anthony Campbell, who passed away peacefully last night following a long and courageous battle in intensive care after a complex major operation.”
“Phil was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a proud and loving grandfather, known affectionately as “Bampi.” He was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be missed immensely. His legacy, music and the memories he created with so many will live on forever. We kindly ask that our family’s privacy is respected during this incredibly difficult time,” Phil Campbell’s family said.
Phil was born in Pontypridd, Wales, in 1961 and would celebrate his 65th birthday next May. Before joining Motörhead, he was a member of Persian Risk, having recorded with them. During his career, he also appeared as a guest on songs by Drifter and Cro-Mags.
