Heart vocalist Ann Wilson has kept her voice in great shape over the decades and can still sing almost as well as she did at the beginning of her career. At 76, she explained in an interview with Bill Burr how she takes care of her voice.
Heart’s Ann Wilson explains how she takes care of her voice
“Well, I take care of myself moderately. But I don’t really do vocal exercises, but before every show I like to warm up for about an hour. And I do that just by singing along. You just pick somebody else’s album that you really love and just sing along with every song. And so after you do that, you’re warm. In the last couple of years I found myself just hovering toward Elton John because the way he sings and sang in the past, lots of of words, lots of big jumps and skips and incredible pitch. So to ape that is really not easy.”
“Well, back in the bad old days, I never observed a speed limit (in terms of taking care of my voice) where that was concerned. I just went along with the band (to parties),” she said (Transcribed by Blabbermouth). In 2024, Ann revealed that she had to undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy following a cancer diagnosis. Two months later, she completed the treatment and returned to the road the following year. She has been touring with Heart and her own band in recent years and recently joined her sister Nancy for Aerosmith’s comeback shows at the Hollywood Bowl.
As Ann revealed a few months ago, Heart is currently working on a new studio album, which will be their 17th and the first one since “Beautiful Broken” (2016). The title and release date weren’t announced yet. “(It’s) almost finished up now, (it’s) really, really strong. I think it’s going to be great. We wrote a bunch of new songs and recorded down in Nashville with the players that we just played the last tour with. It was like a secondhand thing with each other because we’ve played so many live shows, so the album was pretty much recorded live. I’m really happy. It really feels like a Heart record,” she said in an interview with Gold Derby.
The band’s current line-up has Ann Wilson (Vocals), Nancy Wilson (Guitar), Ryan Waters (Guitar), Ryan Wariner (Guitar), Paul Moak (Keyboards), Tony Lucido (Bass) and Sean T. Lane (Drums).
