Ghost’s Tobias Forge talks about the pressure of writing new songs

Ghost

Tobias Forge, the leader of the Swedish Metal band Ghost that is one of the most praised groups that appared during the last decades, talked in an interview with GDP.fr (Transcribed by Blabbermouth) about how he deals with the pressure of writing new songs. According to the musician it’s always hard to write something new and different from what you have done previously.

In 2022 Ghost released “Impera” their fifth studio album and in 2023 the covers EP “Phantomine” that features versions from classic Iron Maiden, Genesis and Tina Turner tracks.

Ghost’s Tobias Forge talks about the pressure of writing new songs

“When you’ve written one hit, it doesn’t get easier. Once you’re done with one, you have to write another that is supposed to be different. Then it’s even harder. And you have the sharks underneath you. You want to entertain people; you want people to be happy. Almost every time when you write a new song, it feels like virgin territory again. You’re, like, ‘Ugh, how do I do this?’ Like, ‘Ugh.’ You feel better all of a sudden because you think it’s good. And then you go back and start doubting. And sooner or later, you just have to, sort of, (say to yourself), ‘Now it’s done. It’s an album. Hopefully people will like it.'”

“We’ve been able to deliver every time something that people feel is a new thing, that I feel is a new thing, that is not a repetition of what I just did,” Tobias Forge said.

Rafael Polcaro: I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 6 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution. The studies and experience in the field helped me improve the website and always bring the best of classic rock to the world! MTB: 0021377/MG
